The founder of the company, Catherine O'Connor, has worked in various fields &
media before coming to the wonderful & versatile world of Warm Glass. She
started making doll clothes at the age of 4 and has loved doing puzzles,
cooking, and
playing in paint, clay and anything paper. After getting a degree in Mathematics
and teaching for a while, taking classes in carpentry from master carpenters who
worked on the restoration of Independence Hall, Catherine came back to her
roots in art, by becoming proficient in stained glass. Frustrated with the fact
that this form of glass is virtually a 2-D world, and trying to add that 3rd
dimension with soldered pieces of glass coming out in relief, she was not
satisfied.
Step in Aunt Ceil, who gave her a kiln & assorted tools. Catherine found a
wonderfully rotten ton of white clay and became a potter for the next 14 years. She
managed to read & become quite successful selling her clay at art shows & to
various gift stores. Unfortunately this was cut short by a sensitivity to the
mold in the clay. Again luck stepped in in the form of an article about adding
heat to glass and a glass conference in Corning, NY, After many weeks, becoming
months, of playing she decided to make her life easier & attend one of those
conferences, and has never looked back. This is the art form where everything
comes together.
